After two years with this 1988 E30 M3, I am selling it. Why? It's my daily driver, and I want something a bit softer and easier to deal with (E39 M5).
I picked the car up from Chicago and have done a considerable amount of work on it. I believe I am the 4th owner. Autocheck is clear. I have not put the car on eBay yet.
First, the bad:
Since it was in the Chicago area for so long, the body is not perfect. There is the normal bit of cowl rust and a touch at the trunk lock. Bumper and hood could use a re-spray.
Needs a new sunroof motor if you want the tilt function to work, and could use a new washer fluid motor.
That's it.
Now, the good:
115k miles
Miller Gen III MAF
WAR chip
Sport Evo intake cam
Evo II exhaust cam
Borla exhaust w/custom 2" tubing from manifold back
Evo lower airbox
Evo II lightweight flywheel
Bilstein/H&R suspension w/aluminum control arms
Oil pan baffle
Electric fan conversion
UUC shifter and linkage
Evo II steering wheel
Urethane bushings all around
E36 tensioner
M coupe differential cover
Front suspension reinforcement tabs
Reinforced rear shock mounts
Subframe reinforcements
Ellipsoid headlights
Parrot Asteroid w/custom speaker install in stock locations.
Engine was completely rebuilt less than 1000 miles ago by Castro Motorsports.
Other new parts (within the last ~3000 miles):
Alternator
Voltage regulator
A/C converted and refreshed (blows cold of course)
Fuel pump
Water pump
All timing chain components
Engine harness
Rear suspension completely refreshed (except shocks/springs) and repainted
Front suspension completely refreshed (except shocks/springs)
Engine is pretty. Interior is in really great shape (I get lots of comments on that).
There are probably a bunch of other things I'm forgetting. I have a spreadsheet with some of the modifications and I think I've spent close to $13,000 restoring this car.
It handles beautifully. We had it on the dyno and it's very strong.
The car is currently at Castro Motorsports having a couple gremlins worked out of the electrical system -- I wanted the idle absolutely stable and we were having a couple issues with that. As soon as that's done there will be photos.
Chris (who runs Castro) will vet this car himself. He'll be the first to tell you I am very particular about how it runs.
I'm looking to get $25k.
