1988 M3 For Sale

I know, I know, I just got it and now its for sale.

I just want one that I can actually drive, not just polish obsessively.

Everyone knows how much I paid for it, but I want a little more out of it to reinvest in another M3 and a house. :boss:

Why an 89-91? 88 and 89's are without airbags, but have pop-out rear windows and metal control arms.

Usually 88 and 89's are lumped in tandem, where the 90-91's are lumped together in another set.

The BMW parts listing for the aluminum control arms states "from 9/88" which given the competition rules that the car will run under allows me to use them on any E30 M3 produced from 9/88 onward, that precludes using them on an '88 model year :sosad: . Kind of sucks, but rules is rules ...

so for me the ideal choice is an '89 model with pop-out windows but no airbag steering wheel, but I'm willing to forego the airbag steering wheel and fixed rear windows in a '90 - '91 model year if I find the right one.

Is that the only reason? You are saving just a few pounds (and what you save in money you could replace them very frequently).

If you bought that '88 I bet there are at least a couple people that would trade you for their 89-91s Probably not a realistic option, but true nonetheless.

well that's your opinion, but compared to what other owners are asking for their worn out M3's and the cost to bring them back to spec, it might not be that unrealistic of an idea. Since you're probably not familiar with the intended use and the particular rules, I can see how you might think otherwise. I buy new vehicles solely to use for this purpose, so why not a 12+ year old one still in good shape?

I don't really think it's a shame.

I really love the car, its sooooo clean. However, I want something that I can drive the wheels off of without remorse. With this car, I feel guilty even driving it. I hope it goes to someone who can really appreciate the rarity and condition of the vehicle, not to someone who wants to turn it into just another race car.

That is a very impressive example of an M3. Given its overall condition and mileage, I (personally) would leave it stock and enjoy it as it is. Cars like that don't come around very often.

Best of luck selling it. Hopefully it finds a good new home with an equally obsessive owner
