  • BBS Center Lock hubs

After being asked 1500€ for a used set of hubs (let alone the price new) I bought 2 original Motorsport units and decided with the help of fellow members like Conrad and Masa (who did photometric testing to determine the exact alloy) to produce a pair if exact knock-offs.

These are 99.9% correct and were done using 7050-T736 which is the alloy used by Motorspsort from a piece like this:

    Price: 220€ each hub.

ending up like this after a long process of difference types of machining:

Here's a couple of shots with one of the Motorsport units side-by-side:

    The price is 220€ each.

Always was under the impression that they are steel! Nice one Franky!

Now make some wheels for the same good price :-)

Goodbye M3, you served me well.

I thought the motorsport pieces were titanium? At least when I had one in my hands it sure did seem like Ti.

What was/is your solution for the locking nut?

Spray paint and tire shine doesn't equate to a "restoration!"

Yes, I've heard the Titanium comment a few times and I think it's directly related to the price tag these pieces come with but no, I'm sorry to burst the bubble but they're a 7000 series Duraluminium (aeronautical grade alloy is a 6000, usually 6016-T6).

It was difficult to get hold of and they said according to their records this was the 2nd time they ever sold this alloy...

We could make the wheel I'm working on a true monolug (that would solve my center cap issue lol), and bundle them together.

My concern is if the material used above is overkill / costly. as it has a hollow center, by adding slightly more material there, you could make a less costly alloy just as strong, with little weight added.

while were at it, we could fab up some cheap sockets to go with the nuts for installation

Nice idea, Paintpro! Is there a projected weight for the E50-style wheels yet?
