  • Racing Shells....

I am switching out my current seats and going to a racing shell design.

    Any opinions?

I am leaning toward the Recaro Profi SPG XL because I am 6-4 and kind of a lardass, but it occurred to me there are a lot of other makers of these seats, and some cost significantly less....

    Just looking for input.....

    Ironhead,

I went to a speedshop when I was shopping for seats and tried many, like Bride, Recaro Pole Position, SPG, Momo, Sparco etc, etc. The SPG was, by far, the most comfortable. They are snug on me at 5'9" and 175, so I think you would do well with the XL. Between the seats and yanking the carpet, I dropped 100 lbs! :mat: I also bought Lee's sliders and popped those suckers into the factory rails. Worked great...

My 36" waist fits into the Recaro Pole Positions just fine. Check those out.

Cobra Suzuka, GT width. Get it with Technology foam. Trust me Ironballs. Go find one and sit in it.

          Good input guys, thanks.

The trouble I am having, is that no one in my area has a "stock" of these seats that one can sit in and try out.

I guess I have to get pushy at the next track day and try out people's seats. There are usually a pretty good assortment there.

Yeah, just wander around the paddock and be like 'Can I sit in your car?'. That's how I tried and fell for the Pole Positions. They were in a Z3M Coupe when I tried them.

The Recaro's are snug on me, never tried an XL but I'm not that big. 6'1 185 and I really like the Sparco Pro 2000 or Evo seats. Their design fits me better than the Recaro. Might want to check into those. I also have some cheap FIA rated Corbeau Forza's in my Benz and they are nice, if not a little wide. The Forza or Forza 2 might do the job for you if you are on a budget. The new ones are not FIA rated though.

I am 6'2 and about 235...sparco evo2 was about right and the XL/Evo allowed a little to much movement.

Your gonna need to have side brackets to get the seat low enough to wear a helmet. I have corbeau's and had to mount them to the floor literally. am 6'-1" and there is about 1" of clearance. I don't have a headliner either.........

I used Momo side mounts and VAC mounts. Don't waste you money on the Cobra side mounts, they are flared and are too wide.

This is a great seat and you are getting more for your money. Check out Sube sports website for the Cobra line. FIA, SFI, blah blah blah....

They weren't too wide in my case. My Suzuka GT bolted right up to the factory mounting points with Cobra side mounts. It literally dropped right in. The only thing I had to do was ream out the bolt holes because they were drilled a little too small for the factory mounting bolts.

Well, I stand corrected Mick. Maybe they changed the design??

I'm 6'0, 200 lbs, and use the Sparco Evo L. The car came with this seat, and I really like it. I also have my seat mounted directly to the floor in a fixed position with the Sparco seat mounts, and have plenty of head room. You do have to widen the bolt holes, as was mentioned, with these as well, to get the seat brackets to work with the factory mounting holes. I also locktited in a stud, for the rear nutserts, to make the bracket installation, easier, and uniform with the front.
