  • 2012 - E30 M3's at Legends of the Autobahn?

Remember last August's Legends of the Autobahn 25th anniversary gathering of E30 M3's?

There were something like 25 or so E30 M3's on display last year.

This year's Legends of the Autobahn event promises to be even better - not only will the BMW folks be there in addition to the MBZ and Porsche clubs - this year Audi has come onboard and will be participating too.

While this year's focus will be on the E9 CS, CSi and CSL coupes - surely a gathering worth seeing - I am hearing from the organizing team that they would welcome another gathering of the E30 M3's at this year's event.

Interested? The date of the 2012 event is Friday, August 17, 2012 and will be held again at the Rancho Canada Golf Course.

    More info at http://www.legendsoftheautobahn.org/Home.html

I am planning on attending with my E30 M3, anyone else planning on going?

As I get more info from the organizing team I will post it up to this thread.

    Sounds like fun Fred,

I am not sure if mine will be ready by then but if so my brother lives up there so I would have a place to stay and it would be a nice excuse to see family. Today I received the VAC oil pan baffle and it was bent bad enough that the mounting holes did not line up. It seems like Mrs. Murphy is my best friend. ha ha'

    Cheers,

Hey Jim - indeed, last year's event was awesome! Das Boots went up with us and seemed to have a good time...for the tired old fella he is...us youngsters oughta show him how it is supposed to be done this year!

Ms Murphy. Boy howdy, I think, at one time or other in my life, I've met each and every one of them...

Monterey in August, Historic Car Races...for those of you that haven't ever been there, it is honestly hard to really, truly describe what an honest-to-goodness car-gasm that weekend is.

If you are into vintage cars, exotic cars, it is like nirvana...

Put it on your "bucket list" and do yourself the favor of going at least once.

Adding some exciting information - see below:

Mark your calendars, Friday, August 17, 2012.

Something incredibly special is going to happen at this year’s “Legends of the Autobahn” event at the Rancho Canada Golf Course!

        Think “DTM” – 1986 to 1992. E30 M3’s, Audi Quattro’s, Mercedes Benz 2.3-16’s

Last year there was a 25th anniversary celebration of our E30 M3’s at the Legends event. Although the E30 M3 25th year celebration has passed, just know that our cars will again have their own designated parking corral set aside.

This year, what with the Audi club joining in, one of the folks that participated last year suggested why not celebrate the DTM cars from Audi, BMW and Mercedes Benz.

When approached, those fun-loving organizers from the Central California Chapter, Eddy Funahashi and Wayne Wundrum said, “…Hey, that’s a great idea! Let’s contact the Audi and MB clubs and see if they would be interested in doing this…”

So far, the response has been favorable so, put August 17, 2012 on your calendar! It looks likes this could happen and, YOU DON'T WANT TO BE ON THE OUTSIDE LOOKING IN!

Start making plans; the hotels in and around Monterey sell out way in advance!

This could be the beginning of something really unique, having these truly significant cars from BMW, MBZ and Audi all together, on the same turf, at the same time. Mortal combatants they were during the DTM years of 1986 through 1992, this is a very unique opportunity to have your car on the greens, in a specific parking area, together with the MB 2.3-16v and the Audi Quattro’s of the same period.

If any of you have friends with these MBZ’s or Audi’s, pass this information along to them and tell them to tell their friends. This could be BIG!

Keep watching this space for more information as it becomes available.

Registration is open, ride this link to the Legends of the Autobahn site and get yourself registered!

What are you waiting for, a rock to fall on your head? Get on it!

            Fred,
There's no mention of this on the website.

Yep, I see that. I am messaging back and forth with the organizers to seek a clarification on what the plans are.

Stay Tooned. Soon as I get updated info I will post it up.

                Bumping this thread.

I am not seeing many E30 M3's registered for the Legends event, although mine is not listed rest assured it will be there. As part of the CCA team of judges for this event, I am registered, just that my car isn't shown amongst those registered.

In talking it over with the organizers, yes they still do want to have a display corral for the E30 M3's so they are encouraging all of us to register for either the Judging or as a DISPLAY vehicle.

Yes, you do need to be a BMW CCA member to put your M3 out there on the greens - if you are not a member and wish to participate post me a PM and let me know. There may be some options that can be explored....

The hopes to get some of the Audi and MBZ versions of our M3's is slow in getting off the ground. There may be a couple of these cars attending this year and look forward to a gathering of these cars at this event in the future. It will just take some time to generate enough interest.

So, better get on with the decision - hotel rooms are getting harder to come by if you are planning on making a weekend of it.

You can be there just for the Legends event on Friday - it is do-able!

Let's see some more M3's out there!

                    BUMP

I am seeing more registrations. Gonna be a kick a** event.

Got word today that BMW NA is going to be sending their CEO to race one of the E9 3.5CSL's - outrageous flared fenders, huge wings, motorsports stripes, flames belching out of the exhausts...

If you miss it, it is your fault....

An event definitely on the to-do list..

Do you have details on any caravan or hotels in the area that other m3 owners may be at?

We are just less than 2 weeks out from the Legends event - there are several of our cars listed amongst those attending. Anyone from this list going?

Chime in, hope to see some of you there.
