  • chip / schrick camshaft

    i everybody,

I need your help to solve a problem.
I have an M3 E30 215CV 1990 uncatalised and i have installed Schrick camshaft on it. I put 284 at intake port and 276 at exhaust port. I have also an ECU 0261200091 with 26C256 chip just mounted. This chip has been programmed for M3 evo. Wich one? i don't know.

Since the engine works some bad!

I am asking what chip should i use for my camshaft configuration? Maybe the one of M3 2.5l will match better?

    Thanks for your remarks.

    Lionel.

I moved this thread because you posted it in the archive section.

But I would say you best bet is to get a custom mapped chip as this will give you the best gains for your set up. You will need to find someone in France who can do it though. I know plenty of people in the UK who do this.

make sure the cams are degreed properly

What do you mean by are degreed? engine works with these since one year.
If bad degreed, power is only reduced or it works badly or noisy?

you cant just slap in a evo3 chip.
you have 2.3l engine with a 2.3l AFM (Air Fuel Meter).
the 2.5l sport evo hast a different AFM, it is calibrated
differently, and therefore the chip is also different.

Not only that, the evo3 uses different fuel injectors.
300 cc vs. your 240 cc @ 3 bar. Unless you changed
fuel injectors, but you did not mention that. using
differnt injectors means the fueling is SCALED
          different.

so take that chip back out, and put in a normal 2.3
chip. the car should run ok with that. to take
advantage of the cams, a custom chip would be
          better.

if you want to try a few other chips and know how
to burn eproms yourself, Ill can help you. If you
really want to take advantage of your cams, you
should delete that AFM anyway. see the engine FAQ
          section for details.

Well, thanks for that. But in my car it is a 2.3 chip which is mounted for EVO I or II. I employ this one because duration of intake port is 276. so it was more matching with my cams configuration tahn stock chip. But it seems to be not correct because engine seems suffocating sometimes. I want to reprogram my EPROM. i saw some proper materiel to do that but never done before. Yes it will be kind if you help me.

Those cams are useless with an AFM. Get rid of the AFM.

But datas from Air fuel meter will be deleted. How the chip manage it? Just have to diconnect it. AFM is the calculator on Air Filter box? Thanks.

Define useless. Calling them useless I find a bit hard. Money wise I bet it is better to get rid of that AFM first.

In my case they came with the car I don't want to replace them. The car works fine still using AFM and a GrpN chip (~195 rwhp). Of course it would work even better with AlphaN setup.

I my case won't bother to make a custom chip. I'ill wait until I have the money to go the AlphaN setup route.

What is usefullness of alpha N kit?
So In my case i have either to

1/get rid of AFM (how?diconnect only?)
2/or replace the chip with a 215HP GrpN chip
3/or get an alpha N kit.
That's it? I am not sure to understand my english is not perfect.

I define them as useless on a stock car with an AFM. I installed them on my car when I had the SS MAF and all was great, then sold the SS and put the AFM back on for a while. Parked the car. Useless. Then I bought the MAXX and was back to driving it again. The cams do help the car, even with an AFM, but who drives around off track at steady 5000rpm? If anyone here has not driven an S14 without the AFM you are REALLY missing out. Another thing, those cams need additional fueling and different timing also. IMHO just dropping cams in a stock S14 is useless, unless there are other mods in the very near future to open up the intake/exhaust as a system.

I drove these schrick's with a modded cyl. head but its to much for the afm.
Better dump the afm, get some mod like the other guys said : )
-maxx piggy back ecu with aditional eprom (chip) for the ign. maping
-special eprom, nobody tested yet your exact engine configuration so need a lot of development time
-other piggy back ecu's with a programmable air/fuel and ign. nobody tested yet so need a lot of development time
-stand alone ecu which can you can get starting at 1000 E

well I can send you a 215hp 2.3l chip bin file
and you burn your own chip. I can also send
you a few others. contact me at [email protected]
OTOH, you could also have other/additional running
problems that we or you dont know about.

a Maxx-AN is not hard to install and tune, a lot
of people have installed it on their own. there
are instructions, wireing schematic, pictures, etc. but
if you are not adept at that sort of thing, you may
need someone to help you. Before you get too
interested, I would suggest reading in in the
"engine FAQ" section on this site. there are a lot
                            of posts on the topic.

If you ever came to the Ring, we could tune it
                            for you on the spot.
