In an age of DaimlerChrysler conglomerates, GM-powered Saabs, Ford-built Jags and huge Chris Bangle-ish debates; cars like the E30 M3 stand out.

It's raw. It's rare (in comparison to other cars of the same decade). Its the first (and last?) of its kind. It represents a different era. It was built for one thing and it succeeded in that arena time and time again.

Part of its continuing legacy, as Stan pointed out, is that it can adapt well to new technologies and that means that the CORE components of the car were robustly designed in the first place.

Not to mention the fact that it still turns heads.

Just my .02 on why some of us "get it"

I've never had a car that creates so much attention. I quite often get complete strangers come up to me and want to know about the car.
I don't own this car because of the Roundel. I personally think there is way to much badge snobbery about. I love cars, if it's a good car it's a good car whoever makes it.
I put a lot of money into my car as have others, but it still puts a smile on my face when I drive it. Hook up a few bends up and all the money is worth it and to hear that S14 chase the redline and just to feel such a part of the car.
Race car dynamics for the road, fantastic! I think I get it

I just got back from my drive. That is all the vindication I need to know why I bought the M3 in the first place. Went for a 1.5 hour ride and never even thought about turning on the radio I love it

I think we need an "Either You Get It or You Don't" banner. As many people here have stated.

Top topic? Maybe with a new subject heading?

                      - Why do you "get it"?
                      - How do you "get it"?
                      - E30 M3 owners, obsessed?
                      - E30 M3, publicly under rated, privately over obsessed.
                      - Why the E30 M3 rocks.
                      - Hail to the E30 M3!
                      - ???

                      Suggestions?

                      I really like this thread.

Bahahahaha. Somehow I knew you would Jake. Your passion shows when someone asks a technical question and you literally write an essay with all sorts of technical and/or historical information to support your premise. You rock Jake!!!! You should be a super hero with a "///M" attached to your chest.

The E30 M3 Does not need to be defended.

I Get it, and I have never seen one in real life. My friends all say but you 325i must be quicker, but you know I would give all that I have done too my car, just for an E30 M3. Shure it isn't the fastest, but come on it's not all about speed. It's legacy the legacy that follows it. One of the few true race cars for the road. Mwaaa I want one soooo bad !!

And too whoever says it's a waste of time just send them too me ill sort them out!!
Someday when im rich Ill import my very own E30 M3 to South Africa (never came to our country)
