  • Headlight Wiper Question

My Evo II has the headlight wiper system and I cannot for the life of me figure out how to turn them on. They don't run off the regular wiper switch nor off the washer switch. I give up - share the knowledge. Thanks.

    Hello,

the wipers will only be turned on when your light is turned on. After taht they will also clean your headlamps when you clean your windshield...

But the motors are very often stuck as water comes in throught the axle of the motor where the wipers are mounted.

    Best regards,
    Oliver

was it not something like every 10th time you pulled the windshield washer?

My 5 series works in the same way. Light's on only of course.

Goodbye M3, you served me well.

I am not 100% sure, but I guess every 3rd time or 5th...

But the first time after switching on the lights it will always wash...

        Best regards,
        Oliver

The Headlight wipers and washer are actuated when you have your lights on (this is how they receive power) and you pull the washer stalk towards you to spray on the windshield. They should run when you do this every time. However, they will only work in 30 second intervals, meaning if you start them, you need to wait 30 seconds before you try to start them again otherwise they won't run. There isn't any 10th, 5th or any kind of rule like that, it's every 30 seconds.

Trust me, I have a fully functional system on mine [peace]

evosport, I've been interested in purchasing a headlight wiper kit for a while, but the whole kit is NLA. Where did you get yours?

Japandrew73 has a very nice install sequence on e30tech.com. Do a search on that site & it should answer most of your questions.

                      Heres the thread http://www.e30tech.com/forum/showthr...ghlight=wipers

Thanks to Andrew for a very detailed DIY.

This sticky http://www.e30tech.com/forum/showthr...ghlight=wipers will list the parts from BMW, their part number & what was NLA when it was written. Three years ago I priced out a kit buying all the parts (kit was NLA) & it came to over $1800.

There are plenty of second hand wiper systems on ebay, I bought a used system on it and then I got real lucky and seen a brand new kit on it for 100 buy it now so I also bought it aswell and when it came there was a load of second hand parts aswell as the new kit. Result.

                          Cheers,

                          GARY.

Found the wiring diagram off a forum in the UK. Hope this helps.
