  • Felt ring in crank?

So I have my 2.5 back from the machine shop and I am starting assembly.

I have a question regarding the rear of the crank. I have noticed an odd felt ring assembly pressed in front of the spigot bearing. On realoem it shows it goes in front of the spigot bearing.

It looks to be NLA. Is this necessary? Can I remove it and just use the spigot bearing like any other engine?

Just get a pilot bearing that has a seal in it and forget about that felt ring, since it's obsolete technology.

Yep no need for a felt ring since the new bearings have a rubber seal.

OK thanks guys. Will pull this out and fit a new sealed bearing.

I have been meaniing to start a build thread but here is some pics:

2.3 block with oil squirters fitted, 2.5 evo crank, JE 95.5mm pistons at 11.4 comp with stock headgasket, Pauter rods, brand new stock head, stock valves, new evo valve springs, Schrick 284/276 cams.

Had the bottom end and head assembled by a very good machine shop who specialises in race engines.
