  • Flywheel surface condition ?

How does the condition of my flywheel look to you more knowledgeable owners ? 1, Normal wear and tear, don't worry about . 2, If you are spending a ton of cash restoring the car, get a skim done.

Skim, IMHO. It looks like just a few thousandths would do it.

      Hi, BMG,
The surface looks OK. If you take a cut on the surface to clean it up, you have to retain the step at the outside. That requires removing the three dowels to make that cut.

Yes 100% I would skim cut until clean. shouldn't take much looking at it but as Larry said make sure machinist maintains step (which pretty much anyone worth bolting the flywheel to a flywheel cutting table will see and know).

Had a skim done. Engineering shop said there was a 0.7mm variation across the surface and quite bad.

That looks MUCH better. Your clutch disk will thank you.
I have a local machinist who does it for me very reasonably, and I never put a steel flywheel back in a car without a fresh skim cut surface
