I had this on my calendar to watch and I'll be darned if I got tied up at work and missed the auction!
Hopefully someone in here bought it and is going to fix and drive the wheels off it.

Two people in the UK in the S14 FB group are advertising rolling shells for 20k GBP.

Someone please help me understand this ridiculous market.

I was watching the BAT auction. A friend and I had a bet going as to how much it would sell for. I said $35 he said $40. I won because he busted.

$35 for a wreck with a salvage title. Holy smokes, I guess I'll be waiting even longer before I pick one up. Too rich for my blood.

Yep I saw that roller. Also one sold on ebay for 13k. As I have the full e30 m3 drivetrain with built 2.5 I would love to buy a roller and reunite drivetrain with chassis. However the rollers are in the USA, and I'm in Canada. I don't know if I can officially import a roller and then get the car on the road here. So I'm and thinking, sell my e30 s14 coupe, my e30 touring, and my e39 M5 to fund an e30 m3 purchase.....

An e30 touring, another one on my list I'd like to own.

Does Canada have a 25 yr law like the U.S. does?

What 25 year law are you taking about?

          • #7
I was going to ask the same question. What law is that? Is it when it becomes legal to import a certain model into the USA? Like gtr Nissan's?

Yes, we have a similar law that allows Canadians to import a car without it having to meet period environmental or safety requirements. The last I heard, it was still just 15 years. I've seen a few kids locally that have used it to import R32 and I think an R33 GT-Rs. Haven't seen any R34s yet.

Could you import a shell using the 15 yr rule?

There have been a handful of importers in the USA that were disassembling the Skylines and importing "parts" then reassembling them back in the US. They were doing it either to avoid the 25yr rule or pay less taxes. Either way, their shops got raided by the Feds.

Not an expert but US federal laws are very strict. Most cars imported before the 25 year rule cannot be streetable unless moving between locations for non-daily use. This is what I have read. It seems that there are people that are getting away with it in Florida for some reason. Also, some people are insuring in Canada and driving in the USA and if caught would be up deep s**t.
Only from what I read on boards.

Yes. Still 15 years. Almost anything goes in Canada. Importers are bringing cars in one day after their build date exceeds 15 years. As for rollers, I’m not sure as the cars require inspection to meet provincial requirements. Even between provinces. There are a few R34 GTR’s in Vancouver, BC. I have seen them. Love them. There’s one for sale on Craigslist now. A white one for around $66K plus cdn. Too modded for me though. I’m looking for 100% stock.

Just bought this last year. Not available for import to the USA unless for museum purposes. 2001 Renault Sport Clio V6

Interesting. I thought the s50b32 had ITBs.. no? $25k for a running/ driving car seems like a pretty good deal compared to the $20k shell.
