  • Record price for an s14? [email protected]#$t crazy

This afternoon the auction just ended for this s14 motor and box at $27k...

Is this a new record for a used (not rebuilt) motor?

25 years and only had the crank turned a few times. The buyer still has 5% to BAT on top of the $27K. I'll bet the $ does not exchange hands. If it does, what am I missing other than a scam to drive up the E30 M3 prices higher.

Agreed. I think the sale won't complete.

No way it goes through. I posted this on the SIG thread, Winner / Buyer has no comments, no posts, no bids, no BAT history of any kind and joined this month.
        Gotta be a sham.

It was bidding up to $11.5k, then 2 accounts bidding against each other drove it to $27.5k. No idea what the motivation was but there's little chance the winner pays.

Well I agree it smells of a sham but BAT is normally free of this type of thing. Time will tell. I would prefer it was not real, just making the whole hobby smaller and exclusive.

              Something isn’t right, indeed.

You could build quite the S14 for that price, and for a few grand more you could buy a complete car.

The auction is either a sham or the bidders have mental problems and haven’t done any homework.

I paid $15,500 for a fully built 2.5 race motor last year. I guess I got a deal!

I wonder how much it would cost to have your own block cnc'd from billet

I think John in Germany was looking into it. It's only a matter of time. Common on other popular engines like the rb26, WRX boxer motor, and small/big block domestic stuff.

An entire US-spec car with 8k miles on it just went for a cool quarter million on BaT.

                          That's a staggering result.

I like my M3, but I can think of 250,000 other ways I'd spend that much money. Surely you can find yourself in the driver's seat of a Sport Evo for that much. Is it far off from a legitimate DTM/period race car?

At minimum, if I was spending absolute top dollar for a blue chip investment, it would not have repainted front fenders.

All of those surprising over the top deals that appear from time to time, I always wonder if at the end of the day the money actually changed hands and the deal was completed. If I had to bet, I would say "nope".

That price was so ridiculously high, I cannot imagine it actually happening.

As an investment it makes limited sense, as a toy it makes no sense. I like to think the owner has a passion for these cars and in my mind he or she already has a few.

I’m all for expensive cars, but driving this thing is really the only reason to own one.
