  • Front bumper carrier foam insert?

    Hi All,

Quick question regarding front bumper foam that fits between carrier and bumper skin . The part number I require has ended p/n 51111940376. There are two other foam insert numbers Left and right listed on real oem but they are for an Evo 2 , p/n's 51112238091 and 51112238092 .

Anyone know if I could use the EVO 2 foam insert instead on a standard E30 M3 bumper?

    Thanks.

I went from a US spec front bumper to a euro front bumper and reused the foam. I didn't notice any difference in the fit of the foam. I believe the only difference between the standard euro bumper and the EVO 2 bumper is the holes at the bottom to mount the front spoiler.

and if you want to shed a good bit of weight, cut the plastic holder into two small pieces only where the carrier bolts are. throw the rest away.

How much weight could actually be cut out by doing this? I didn't think the core was that heavy, maybe 10 pounds?

Saving weight in your bumper can be significant. Because it hangs out in front of the axel, it has a lot of inertial effect on turn-in. Not sure it's worth doing uless it's a highly modified car though.

I'm wondering if it is better to leave the stock bumpers the way they are and buy aftermarket carbon bumpers? Put the stock ones in storage and use the aftermarket ones? I want to do swap most of the bolt on body panels with good carbon repros to save weight.
