The parts diagrams are generic. If the part identifier is grayed out, it is not applicable to the M3.

Your question of" where I can find the 26, 27, and 28 in the diagram" - they are in the bottom left side and grayed out.

Originally, it was a long plastic quarter turn screw. I think it may be NLA now. Now the recommended replacement is the quarter turn thumb screw, the same ones used on the headlight covers in the engine bay.

Be careful not the same part, look at the diameter of the flange around the head.

Actually, they function the same. The one with the flange is the updated version. The one without is the original style. RealOEM is also incorrect on this matter which further complicates things. There wasn't 3 pieces on the bottom just a single large lock. Perhaps that's why it's greyed out.

579 is #12 in realoem and are the 3 locks on top. The single large lock (quarter turn screw) on the bottom is greyed out without any information but as I said the headlight cover thumb locks (same ones used for the upper glovebox panel) work perfectly.

51451916579 car use 3 of this part number for the the top.
51451916579 use one at the bottom.
Two years ago I bought a 1989 BMW 325 I fromthe original owner, it has 21000 miles and it was untouched and this is the set up that it had.

You are aware you posted the same part number twice right?

Yes, that's correct and I just realized something thanks to this discussion. The thumb quarter turn lock that i'm referring to is also listed as #17 and this is what is used on the glovebox panels. The one that goes under the steering column was not a thumb lock but a large flat headed lock 51451914869 but they list it as being used in the glovebox as well. This is an error. It will work though as they are the same size.

51711916197 - "thumb quarter turn lock"
