  • Spark. Plugs bosch x5dtc not longer avaible??!!

    Hi,
as some of you may already know, bosch x5 dtc spark plugs are no longer available at bosch and not even at the bmw dealer.
have any of you already tried to ask bmw classic if they intend to make them available?
it seems to me really paradoxical that bmw misses these parts.
I also looked around but I don't think I found too many things unlike a few years ago.
have you had any experiences with similar candles from other brands?
    thanks
    Luca

For years, I had a lot of problems with cracking insulation from the Bosch plugs after 2K or so miles. I have no idea what was causing it.

About eight years ago I switched to NGK and haven't had a problem since. I don't remember the part number of the correct plugs, but there are cross-reference charts available and you can just plug in the Bosch part number.

        1990m3 : X5DTC or X5DC?

Ironhead : I had perhaps read that there were problems with candles with matching specifications, but maybe I don't remember correctly.
if you have the ngk p/n please send it

according to one of my suppliers, there are some X5DC located in a warehouse in Atlanta, GA. they are the Indian produced X5DC, interchanging to Bosch part number: 0 241 145 504

from what i can see in my catalogue, they are listed as "NLA 7.20" - not sure what that means going forward. tempted to buy the lot of them. this is getting ri-goddamn-diculous.

From what I've heard, the ones made in India should be avoided due to poor quality.

The DTC has a 3 ground electrode design.

I hate to be "that guy" but its a spark plug. You can stick almost anything in there that (a) fits and ((b) is remotely close to the proper heat range and the car will run fine.

I have never been able to discern a single difference on my street cars from one plug to another. I have run Bosch, NGK, Champion and I think at one point Autolite plugs in assorted BMW engines and never a difference.

This also can be said with oil. I once asked an engines department teacher at a vocational college what the best oil was for XXXXXXX engine. He said, "clean oil of the correct viscosity, don't overthink it"

Funny, I was just told yesterday by Don Fields NOT to buy X5DC plugs because they have a 40% failure rate and to go with NGK.

Yeah Don has been pretty vocal on the SIG about the decline of the Bosch plugs from various places of production.
I have yet to see that failure, I have a pretty huge back stock of X5DCs due to an ordering mistake. I was ordering plugs and the online vendor of the time sent me "boxes" of plugs instead so about 20 years ago I inadvertently purchased a lifetime supply for my street S14s.

But I have run all manner of plugs in my BMWs and my S14s.
My race engines I use Champions.
As I posted I think I have Autolites in my 318Ti at the moment because thats what they had when I was changing them, runs perfectly.

agree...for plugs and oil and several other commodities folks obsess about.
