A three weeks ago I ordered the X5DC since they were available, to date since I have owned my M3 I have used X5DTC and a friend of mine said that the DTC plugs were as possibly associated with rougher idle so I am interested in go to a single electrode just to see if there is any noticeable difference.

what is the go to for colder plugs now days for 2.7L race engines? I haven't had any issues with the standard X5DC on pump gas, even with dead cold starts in the 30's-40's. Car fires right up to dead solid idle. Just wondering if I should be running a step or two colder when on track. John used to mention that he would warm up with standard plugs and then change out to the Champion race plugs. Just wondering what the net gain in the combustion chamber is.

I run Champion A59Cs, they came with my BTCC car as the when it had the antique Zytec ECU in it.
The previous owner was using them as startup / paddock plugs.
The race plugs everyone used are A55V, they are a surface gap plug so I wouldn't run them unless I tuned with them.
I have boxes of them but I wont use them unless we got to the dyno and tune with them.
I used to start my BTCC car on x5DC and then switch to the A55V when it had the Zytec. Thats been replaced years ago and now I just run the A59C
The A59C I run is about a 2 step colder plug than an X5DC I think (its been a while since I did that research).
It starts fine on a modern ECU, I can idle on the grid waiting for the race to start (I never shut my car off from when I depart my paddock space, yes superstitious) and after a full race I pull them and they look beautiful.
