  • Radio Repair CM5908

Anyone had occasion to send their CM5908 radio out for repair and if so, who did you use?

Mine is not putting out any sound although all other functions work. I've ruled out the amplifier in the trunk, so I think the output capacitors have taken a dump.

    Thanks,
    Mark

    Mark,
I posed this question on the SIG a while back and the one repeating answer was:
    Doctor Dons
    Huntsville, Texas
    (936) 435-1811.
    doctordons.com

There were others but this one was the one that had multiple SIG recommendations.
I have two units I need to get serviced but personally have not sent him anything yet.

Once in a while you come across a vendor that is so good, that makes you want to share their contact information.

And I have had 2 positive experiences with: Mr. Majid, owner of Creative Car Audio Shop in Brea, CA. Phone: (714) 744-4438
    https://creativecaraudioshop.com/
    1. I have a very low mileage 1988 M3 that I have had for 30 years, and I think the OEM radio is a CM5905. Anyhow, it looked brand new on the outside, but it did not make any sound on radio or tape. I sent it to the above and he replaced a bunch of leaky capacitors and inductors, as well as the tape drive. It is back and works great.
    2. I also own a 1994 Turbo 3.6 forever and it had an aftermarket Alpine head which always bothered me. I think that I spent a year and half looking for an NOS/mint CR-1 OEM radio and NOS bezel. The radio needed the 4-digit code which Mr. Majidi figured out, but it also had leaky capacitors, inductors, etc. which he restored.
    Good luck to you!
