  • Camshaft Pitting

While checking my valve clearances, I noticed my intake cam has a few lobes with some significant pitting. The pitting was not there the last time I checked valve clearances (about 15K mi ago). Anyone else have this problem?

The car has 96K miles on it now and I have been using Mobil 1 oil since I purchased it with 79K miles. The valve clearances were 0.014 on the pitted cams, but some of the others with no pitting were also at 0.014. The car sees regular high rpm use at 8-10 track events per season, but it is stored winters (always with a fresh oil change).

It seems strange to me that only the intake cam shows this abnormal wear. Do I need to replace the cam immediately?
