In CA starting October in few days....a cameras will be installed for every smog test that the technician will perform.

Texas went the opposite direction and beyond 24 years of age a vehicle is exempt from emissions testing and depending on the plate type only has to pass the safety inspection. That way all the inspection stations could retire their tail pipe sniffers and do everything via OBD. It's even county specific, some counties don't even require the emissions check!

Believe it or not...(I can hardly believe it) there are rural counties in Cali that do not require emissions tests. I just don't live in one of them, sadly.
