  • Will Sanden AC comp. clear DTM pan?

I was told that you can't run the DTM pan with factory AC - can anyone confirm this?
    Where is the interference?
There is a company acsolutions who is making a kit for the E30 M3 utilizing the much smaller Sanden Compressor. Will this allow using the DTM pan?
If anyone can give some kind of measurement as to where the interference is and by how much I can relay this to the acsolutions folks.

(side note - does anyone have a pan for sale? The replica cast pan is fine)

    Thanks.

You cannot run the DTM pan with factory A/C. The DTM pan protrudes from the right side of the block where the OEM pan does not. It goes into the space occupied by the factory A/C compressor. If you look at a picture of the DTM pan and compare it with stock, the area of interference will hopefully be clear/obvious.

The only replica cast pan I am aware of is the one made by Conrad Timms. It is a great piece, at least as good as the BMW motorsport pan, but it costs about as much also unfortunately. I'm not sure if Conrad still sells them. Last I looked his website was down.

VAC sells a welded/fabricated pan that I used for a while. It works and provides good oiling, but the manner in which it installs is sort of awkward and prone to leaking. The Timms pan is better if you can find one.

Or you go look for an original BMW motorsport pan.

The later retro kit factory produced R134A compressor kit p/n 82399404494 mounts the compressor high above the sump to block gasket hight and will clear the DTM sump.

The only catch is the vibrations from the S14 will either/or and including, snap bolts off that attach it to the block, crack the bracket or crack the adjusting bracket.

I have had three mounting bracket kits on a rotation basis one now is a talking piece at the NDT department at work and test piece for mag particle inspections.

I am still waiting for the feedback from some installs of the 'new kits', that use brackets without the isolation bushings, for the mounting of the compressor.

I will share this thread with the a solutions folks for consideration. Not sure on the details of the kit as it's still in R and D from what I heard.

Let me know if anyone has the pan above for sale

Not to threadjack, but since this is on-topic -- does anyone have a lead on a new R134A compressor? The one my shop found turned out to have signs of rust on it so they turned it away and still looking for another.

Do you need a 'like new' one for a restoration? Find one like you did and send it to that guy that refurbs ABS pumps and AC compressors.

Yes looking for a like new one. We're looking at refurbing the existing one but having the same issue with locating parts for the refurb. I may DM you for more info if our search comes up empty. Thanks!

Good News. She clears. (with the LCW bracket)

I went with a 815mm belt which allows you to just barely get the belt on while turning the crank and it only needs a tiny bit of adjustment downward to get a good tension. So for any other weirdos like me who want A/C and DTM pan - you can do it (mine is the conrad cast pan). You can just grind off the 4th tang on the compressor if you wanted to run a different belt. I have other photos but it's saying I hit my quota...?

It does not but is heavy duty. Came with 10.9 hardware and I red loctite it in. Given the weight of the compressor and possible deflection I am unsure the isolated mounts would be desirable in that application.

Keep us informed with periodic updates if the bracket holds up. Some that have had them on S38's are still cracking brackets I believe.

I will, I wish I could post more photos but it says I hit some kind of max. Then you can have some kind of idea what it looks like. It's beefy.

ACtually you can see part of it in that photo on the right side where I put my witness marks
