Shifter rod ear broke is there an error in diag

Hy guys the ear of # 2 broke and lost a bolt # 3
in the diagram it shows #3 as being a real long bolt m8x140
is this a mistake ?

I was hoping someone else would weigh in, as I have not worked on that part of the car in a looong time...

As I remember, 140mm does sound very long, but I cannot remember exactly how long the bolts are. I would just start the work, and match the missing bolt to the one that remains. Even the most ardent BMW fanatic wouldn't hold it against you if you used a bolt from somewhere besides BMW. You can get an adequate M8 bolt at any decent hardware store. That's probably where the BMW bolt will come from if you order one....

I figured it out the dog leg has this really long 140 mm bolt and nut the regular American version has a small bolt M 8 x 25 roughly

New Bracket and a new bolt required, first up I would try ordering a new bolt but I think you may have to visit hardware store etc to find one

In case of NLA fasteners I just Google 'BMW M8x140' in this case and found 11 13 7 791 813 . Used on the MINI R50.
It has a flange which the NLA one doesn't but space-wise that shouldn't be a problem.

There is an error in the diagram the non dogleg does not have a M8x140 and nut but a Small M8 with no nut.

No, it's not an error in the diagram. You chose a Euro version in the link you posted and failed to mention you have a US version that has different gearbox...

hardtailer - sorry but you are in the wrong section of the catalog. You need to look under "Gearshift Manual Transmission". The catalog is wrong.

To all,
The reason for the difference is that the dog leg has through holes where the shifter bracket is bolted which requires the longer bolts and nuts, while the OD trans have tapped holes so the shorter bolts thread in.
