2.5 Evo block info?

Anyone have an insight on the cheapest place to buy a 2.5 Evo block in the US or other?

I know about Motorsport Imports, but their price includes pistons. I was hoping on using JE or Weisco pistons that come in Turners kit since I believe they have more compression anyway.

I don't think you can get just the bare block without the piston set. That's how they're sold.

The best would be if you can find a buddy with a wholesale account through BMW and talk him into giving it to you at cost.

I paid £1052 for my E2 block/piston set at my dealer. By today's exchange rate that's about $1670. The E3 block as almost an extra $100 IIRC.

They all do come with pistons. I assume Mitch (Motorsport Imports) was just pulling the pistons out of the box and selling them separately.

What does you're dealer want for it? If they offer a good club discount it will probably be the best price.

I wondered the very same thing, and asked around. The answer I got everywhere is that the block and pistons are only sold as a unit.

I wound up going with the Wiseco pistons, so now I have an unused set of EVO pistons lying around. I am not totally sure I made the right decision though. In my engine with the Wisecos my actual measured static compression turned out to be 11.6/1. I fear that might be a bit high, particularly since I have to use crappy California 91 octane.

I suspect as soon as the weather gets over 60 degrees I will be having to mix a couple of gallons of race gas in every tank. I can live with that because my car is just a toy, but for a daily driver that would be a huge PITA.

I haven't run my new engine yet though. We will see.

i know a adress here in Germany where you can get brandnew blocks without pistons......but how to ship such a heavy part to USA?
I think that would cost the same as you buy one in USA...
