windshield replacement

"Damn thats alot of rust!" said the glass guy. she looks terrible. thank god the sheet metal is still available. I pulled the dash bumper fenders skirts interior etc all to be painted before they go back on. from a windshield to a restoration? i have a dash from a 325, and the m3 dash has a whole lot more going on underneath insulation wise. cant wait to wrap this thing up.

Was shocked new rubber was only $28.00? but happy.
No signs of rust, but will find out what's behind the glass next week!

I Hope he quoted you for a bond strip and not a plain E30 rubber gasket. The glass and the manner of installation ae differnt between the M and its siblings.

He could have also quoted the little rubber "clean" strip across the backside of the window that 'hides' the adhesive.

so far the prices on realoem have been close to what they show. Maybe couple of dollars over, but no more.
I too have to replace my windshield, and the gasket was $24 something with the cca discount at the dealer.

Made in US tinted glass & installed for $160.00
with free Lifetime stress crack replacement.
Came out great, only needed a new outer rubber seal $28.00
( picked up the seal last week @ Mesa Perf.)
Even took 30-40 pic's during the 1 hr. installation today.
(Installer has done many of these, it was not a big deal for him
& his special tools)

Nice. I'm glad you could get that done. He did the glass on my old car and did a good job, but keep his number just in case anything goes wrong.

That sounds wrong to me - am I way off? I thought E30 M3's had bonded windshields...? I was quoted about 8 hours worth of labor (at $70 / hr), in addition to the cost of the windshield ($230 or so) --- almost $800. As I understand, only a regular non-M E30 windshield should be replaceable in an hour, as it's simply pulled out of the seal and the new one worked into the seal w/ the special tool.

Lucky you. That is the same guy that did my car (used to be project's car). He put on the wrong rubber (E36 rubber). Now I need to buy the rubber and put it on myself.

$160 sounds really cheap. I had a quote of $400 a few weeks ago. Maybe I should shop around some more.
