You should be able to do it for $25K if you oversee what goes into it... Test drive a 3.2 VR6 Audi TT w/ DSG... my next car. They've already put a s/c on one and pulled 4.1sec. 0-62mph & Quattro handling.
Remember, Buying one already restored / built will be much much cheaper than having someone build it / restore it for you. Start keeping your eyes open, and you may find a car almost all the way to where you want it.

I think the TTs are ugly, new or old gen, no offense. I'm also looking at a new S4 Avant as the new family mobile, so I don't want 2 Audis.
What would you say was the worst part of your restore experience? I'm sure there were many gotchas. Perhaps you can list the top 5 for us who have the itch to do a bare metal restore.
