  • Engine data needed (cylinder & piston bore, etc)

I have just opened my engine cause a leak test detected a leaking valve in cylinder 2. Valve seat doesn't seam a problem but it looks like piston to cylinder wall clearance is excesive. I also need to check valve to valve guide tolerance.

Can anybody help with the following information please?:

    - Valve to valve guide tolerances
    - Stock 2.3L cylinder bore plus tolerances
    - Piston bore plus tolerances
    - Allowable piston to cylinder wall clearance

    Thanks a lot.

To measure valve guide for wear, insert a new valve so that the end of the valve stem is flush with the valve guide. Max. permissible tilt play is 0.65mm for intake and 0.80mm for exhaust valve.

installed piston clearance 0.03 to 0.05 mm, max. permissible total wear play: 0.15mm

search for the OEM repair manual on the E30 around here. That's where this info stems from and where you can find the rest (should you require as my thoughts are the above will suffice) too.

Thanks a lot. Got the Repair Manual and the required information. Unfortunatelly will need to go to major surgery. Now trying to sort out if going to a 2.5L or stay with the stock 2.3
