  • It Blow'd Up Real Good

I had a bit of trouble Saturday getting on an entrance ramp winding up to about 6K and then....

The engine has about 150K on it. Any ideas about why?

Sorry to hear about this. Hopefully the repair won't be too painful.

Ouch. Wouldn't be THAT bad if the head didn't crack

I don't see the head cracked....in fact, I can't even see the head. It did put a nice hole in the cam tray, but that is seperate from the head.

it looked like it lacked service from the previous owner, valve adjustments and oil changes

Yes, it's a nice car but it was not very well cared for! It's due for a thorough inspection and tidying up.

what do the rod bearings look like?

If you lost(spun) a bearing thats enough clearance lost for the diaster.

                      Crap oil and neglect.
Looks like maybe it jammed the lifter. If that's what happened, then there is bad news all the way to the rod bearings, with damage all the way in the affected cylinder.

:uhoh: sorry to see this.... I am sure we can all come up with a worst case scenario....
Personally. I am hoping that your issues are all on top..... Start by dropping the oil pan and seeing what is in there.... if you see lots of gold flakes, then you will want to drop the upper pan and have a look at the rod bearings. if there is not a lot of metal in the pan, then maybe there is some hope that the bottom end and the head are ok. Time for me to install my shim under setup. :thank you

Might have sludge in the oil pan if engine was not properly cared for.......
