  • Regarding EVO II engine number... Need an quick answer

    Hi!

Just wondering about this engine number: "23ES01"

Compare to what I read before it should be "234S1" if it is a EVO II engine.

Is it a "exchange block", "special country version", fake or what is it?

Thankīs by the way for a great forum!!

    Please help!

    Kind regards

That's not an engine number, that's the engine's refrence. The enginanumber on a EvoII shoulf be something like 600#####

Of course I will get the full engine number ASAP!

This is what i found by the starter motor:

      9904 N 099
      23 FS 01

      Hope it helps!

I does not start with the 600, maybe it is an exchange engine block?

Dont you guys have any idea?? It is bugging me to death...

I tried to look it up through mobile tradition, but the only thing they could help me with, was the original engine number...

        Any ideas would be helpful!

Yes, itīs an exchange engine block.

9904 = Running number of all manufactured engines for this month.
N = "Neuteile", that means new in English
          099 = Month and year. 09 = September and last 9 = 199(9) or 198(9)

Hope you understand, what i mean?

I have an ORIGINAL BMW-book and there stand this. Look at the picture.
The book is in finnish, but as you can see, itīs easy to read an look it:hi:

Muke, thanks for the informative post. If BMW would've had the foresight to use a Year value that was wider than 1 digit, we enthusiasts would be happier.
Seems like the BMW analog of the Y2K problem. LOL

              Thank You!!

              Hi!

Thank you very much for this answer!! It really helped me!

This must be the best forum around seriously!

You don't happen to have any infos regarding the other number, 23 ES 01?

Something tells me that S01 could be reference number for the EVO II engine. But what about the E? Should it not be a 4? E=Exchange?

              Again, thank you!!

              Daniel

E is not exchange, dont worry about that. It stands for Einspritzung= Injection as opposed to carburetted. S stands for 4-valve cilinder head.
A (Austausch) would be for Exchange.
