Another plus for HOA and SBI, they've been working on my car for years now and I wouldn't take it anywhere else even though its 40 minutes away from me. These are the guys that make me want to drive a BMW forever.

+1 for Hoa at SBI. He's an excellent tech and very trustworthy.

(His name is pronounced similar to "wah"--a note for the whiteboys like me )

Yeah, I was wondering why a Vietnamese guy would be named Juan. But, hey, its LA so I didn't ask. Hoa rocks.

Huge props to Juan at SBI who used fuel injector cleaner, richened it up a bit, and actually went to do the smog check with me! It passed, but barely. Still running lean.

I highly recommend SBI for anybody near LA.

Your cat is still good. You're just running a little too lean. Either rich it up a little bit or warm up your cat a little bit more and you'll pass.

I just passed my Smog.. Barely!!!! I have turner chip with strumhong exhaust. I drove the car at above 6000 RPM for about 10-15 minutes and took it to the smog guy. luckily there were not many people there so he put it right away and I passed. you should run it hard to get the cat nice and hot, so it can work extra hard. luckily, this give me 2 years before I need to change my exhaust and cat.

get the car much warmer. Try to get it on the rollers immediately.
You can also try pulling one of the caps on the throttle bodies.(just one)-worked for me

    Good luck!

All I can add is that I passed my last california smog using my Turner chip. I just tuned the alpha N map to perfection.

    Hi-

I failed my first CA smog test and Juan at SBI suggested I post the numbers up here so he could take a look. So I don't think I'll need input unless you're so inclined.

    !5 MPH; 25MPH

    %CO2 MEAS 14.1; 14.3
    %O2 MEAS 0.2; 0.0

    HC (PPM) MAX 118; 93
    HC (PPM) AVE 31; 20
    HC (PPM) MEAS 51; 35

    CO% MAX 0.75; 0.63
    CO% AVE 0.10; 0.09
    CO% MEAS 0.13; 0.07

    NO (PPM) MAX 799; 738
    NO (PPM) AVE 237; 199
NO (PPM) MEAS 894; 513 FAIL

Relevant service history (current mileage 88,000):
7/2002 62,631 distributor cap, rotor, ignition wires, air filter
7/2003 65,517 adjust valves, throttle bodies, co, clean throttles
    4/2005 68,190 change fuel filter
    11/2006 72,689 replace thermostat
    6/2008 83,000 change spark plugs
    11/2008 87,450 replace oxygen sensor

    Relevant mods:
    Evo airbox
    Evo exhaust cam gear
    VSR center section
    Eisenmann muffler
    Barometric sensor disconnected
usually run TMS chip, but replaced with stock chip for emissions test

I think that's pretty much it, except that I've always thought it's run a little rich given soot on the back end. Any help appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Mark
