I don't know if you do this already or not, but I pivot my left foot on the floor of the car which makes it much easier to modulate the clutch, IMO. It might make it easier for your son.

Driving lesson in an M3
Both my son(16) and daughter (18) learned to drive stick on my M3.
NO problem, why not. Manual transmissions are pretty much all the same, just varying from car-to-car, some just a little more difficult than others. It was good for them. I think they would have hated my old 911 though:smile2:.

Reading this, there is no wonder why there are so many terrible and stupid drivers in USA. People who don't know how to stop a car that got the accelerator stuck etc.
Here in Norway everyone learn to drive in a manual transmission car. You cant call yourself a driver when you can't drive nothing but a automatic. If you have kids that is going to learn to drive, never ever let them into a car with automatic transmission.
My first car was a Volvo 240 Turbo with dog leg transmission, 6 puck unsprung sinter clutch with a Sachs Racing pressureplate....and mechanic clutch. Would like to see a american youth drive that carhehe

learned how to drive stick at 17:
2002 Celica GTS with the sports package.
GC coils
17" TEnzo's
CF hood
CF wing
Total rice rocket, but it was clean...
My sisters boyfriend at the time wanted to impress my sister by letting me borrow his car from time to time.
In the attempt not to stall anywhere, I peeled out after every stop... I was terrible, and perpetuated the stereo type...

Parents wouldn't let us learn to drive unless on a stick.
First was learning in moms 1989 Isuzu trooper II.
1976 Ford fiesta
First car 1976 Ford Pinto (yup not proud of it but had the gas tank shield)
1980 BMW 320i
1991 BMW 318is
and on from there

Sadly, my '69 Camaro and '71 Javelin were automatics so I didn't learn standard until I got to drive a friends very old Volvo. Unfortunately, he neglected to mention that I needed to pump the brakes so that first drive didn't end so well.

I learned to drive a stick when I was 15 years old, on a Ford 2610 Tractor. Self taught.
Good thing it was a robust gearbox, had no power, had enough torque and had gearing low enough to pull stumps. Literally.

I learned to drive stick on my first car, an '89 Jeep Wrangler with the 4.2L. I still own it. I started teaching my girlfriend to drive stick in a '98 M3 convertible about a year and a half ago. Then I sold that and got my e30.
