The track that we are looking at does not have walls rather than open grass. Did not
see any gravel pits either that may cause cars to flip. To be honest, I don't think the
track will allow us to set up cones and mark up their parking lots. We are looking out
for everything and making sure people and their cars are safe.

Sounds, good. I was just throwing another idea out there. I'll see you all on the track and I'll be giving a lot of point by's.
I'd agree with that Will! For me, personally, all I would like to do is take a few slow laps "very leisurely" just to get a little bit of a feel for the track. No helmet, etc....just a fun time.
Since we are trying to rent out the track for the full day, we were thinking of running
different classes. Those who are a little more experienced and competitive (depends on
the insurance), a little competitive with minimal passing on certain spots, time trail with
one car at certain intervals, etc. These are just some ideas we are tossing around and
want to try and include everyone. I rather be running my car around a track than on
a closed parking lot, and I know most people would rather do the same.

usually when we race during the lunch break they let street cars go around for a few laps, but u r behind a pace car (insurance reasons) doing 40mph (u might as well b in the parking lot), once u out there it gets addictive, get a helmet n at least feel the straight away
Almost ready with the logo guys. Graphics guy is swamped but its 95% complete. Took a little longer than expected but its there and it looks pretty damn good. I am excited myself to run a few laps. Anyone run the south course at Pocono? Was wondering how that bank felt.

did it yrs ago with scca, thats nascar turn 1, i think it the banking is about 32deg, u actually lean forward walking up (trying), can b a scary corner when going fast (we use to run the full straight away leading to that corner), scca used to run that corner all the way to the tunnel turn, they since change it cause the faster cars were getting up to 160+ by the time they got to the tunnel turn, got sideways exiting that corner one yr in the rain at 120+ when i used to race the mazda Rx-7, i gained respect for those nascar guys

I have run the south course (a bunch) with alot of different clubs.
I have also run it both directions.
In my opinion (I only have about 100 days at Pocono),,, its the most boring track there.
The only really unique thing about the south course is that it gives you the chance to run on the banking, which Pocono is the only place in the Northeast you can do that other than NHIS.
The scoop on Pocono's banking from a Wiki:
Each turn is modeled after turns at 3 different tracks. Turn One (14 degree banking) was modeled after the now defunct Trenton Speedway, Turn Two (also known as "The Tunnel Turn") is like Indianapolis Motor Speedway (9 degree banking), and Turn 3 (6 degree banking) is similar to The Milwaukee Mile.
Its much more fun running it into T1 running the long course as you really feel a little speed going in there. Coming off the South infield which is basically a little 1.0 mile oval with a hairpin, you dont get much of the sensation of the banking because your entry speed is so much lower.
All that said, its a fairly safe track, not much to hit unless you really screw up on entry to the banking and run way up the track to the wall.
The other PITA about the South course is that it eats inside tires if you car is set up symetrically and has lots of negative camber. You can kill a set of tires in a day there because of the banking, its really loads up an inside 3" portion of the tire.
I'm telling you all who care to listen,,, "the track" at Pocono is the East course.
Its so much fun.
Cheers

+1 on boring, u just mention my two least favorite track, lol, POCONO n NHIS (1st track i ever crashed on), but then again bridgehamptom is my favorite, it sure feels like more than 11deg walking up the bank, Nick is this a hint of where the 25th is gonna b

It sure is. Pocono has really stayed in touch and provided all of the info necessary to help this event move forward, and that is what we need. We cannot depend on other facilities that do not get back to us with the simplest of things. We are not at the middle of the list, we are at the top of it. This is how we are approaching this event for all of us and Pocono is helping us make that happen.
We will choose the east course (thanks jimmy p., didn't forget you and bimmertc66) for those who will track and do their thing, and we are working on getting the south course for about an hour or two for photos and video around that bank. We want to take advantage of that chopper footage!
As far as the date guys, we are looking at August 21st 2011. We were initially shooting for June but due to other events that are being planned we had to coordinate accordingly. We will be posting a sample of the itinerary to give everyone an idea of what we are planning. [peace]
This is sounding great! Let's look at doing SIG Fest earlier next year then, or even later in the fall....just a suggestion. Having two great events to attend next year will be awesome!
Nice work, and I agree with the communication thing. If Pocono has been better to work with up front/early on, that's your venue for sure, easy decision!
Overall Pocono has been very receptive to hosting our event at their facility. Dan, the
events coordinator has helped arranging the dates and access to the track. People
that we needed to contact such as housing, catering, etc., have also gotten back to
us quickly and efficiently. It was a no-brainer to have Pocono as our backdrop for this
event.
One thing we would like some additional input would be for Saturday. The Sunday is
obviously dedicated for the track, show-and-shine, and photo/video, which will be prove
to be a activity packed day. For the day before the big day, we were planning to keep
things simple and allow people to relax and settle in.
Saturday morning/early afternoon people can arrive and get their rooms and settle in a
bit. At this time, people can also clean up their cars and check for the next day. This
will also give people time to meet the other attendees and chat for a bit. We were
thinking of having a early dinner at a local restaurant where we can fill our bellies and
keep the socializing going. After dinner, people can use the pool, weight room, billiard
room, etc. We are also thinking of getting a large projector screen and projector and
playing some movies. Car oriented obviously to get the adrenaline going. You know the
movies with spectacular chase scenes.:gotcha: We really hope to create a family
atmosphere not normally seen with other car meets / gatherings.
We hope that everyone is pumped as much as we are for this event. Any inputs on
making Saturday better, please let us know.
