Durability of aftermarket motor mounts

    I'm thinking two bolts, a big washer under each head to be the top and bottom plates, a 1" spacer for both, then a smaller washer and a nut (again, on each). The smaller washer on both the top and bottom stack ups would be submerged. Then a simple round cylinder mold. Insert the top and bottom assemblies, fill it with urethane and let it cure, then pull out a engine mount. I'm trying real hard not to over simplify, but could it really be more complicated than that?

    maybe a tooling issue. Loads of cost and little batch numbers. How many of these mounts can you sell to justify making a moulding tool?

    I can CAD you a design up in a few hours which would work but who is going to mould it, test it and sells enough to make a profit?

    I don't understand what's so difficult about making these aftermarket mounts. They all fail for the same reason and nobody can figure out how to sink a metal pad into the urethane? If I didn't work 25hrs a day I'd have made these years ago. I'm just in awe at the recurring lack of ingenuity.

    Impossible to know from a picture. The Gr.N and stock parts are decoupled ... this is the first question to ask any aftermarket manufacturer.

    so on the marcus mount how can you tell it is not decoupled, do you have more information on these than just the photo we saw?

    The purpose of decoupling the upper and lower bolts is essentially to avoid vibrations from the engine to be transmitted to the shell thru the bolt.

    Hello Ken,

    The top and bottom bolts have to be separate (instead of a single going through) to allow minimum lateral movement.

    again revshift answered fast, saying there mount studs were independent but anchored inside so as to not delaminate. also concentric and stock height (80 mm)
    any S14 guys running them?

    i emailed them today (sunday) and got a reply in 5 min (nice)
    they said they make E30 M3 mounts but not on there site
    i re emailed asking about design, havent heard yet

    Unless you want to move your engine 3/8" to the back to help "rebalance" your car. That's engine and transmission...
