I need to know if Alpineweiss II, #218, White: is this called "single stage" because this is an enamel of some kind? Is it a "base coat" without the "clearcoat"? What is "glasurit"? I have a '89 325i that is going to painted.

Glasurit is a German paint manufacturer, It used to be it's own entity but BASF purchased them some years ago.

Yes, It's a single stage non metallic color so it does not require a clear coat.

How many coats is normally used and I assume should be sanded between coats? Is this "single stage "paint good or should I be seeking a"base coat", "clearcoat"paint to do the job.

I can't help you with that. When my car gets painted it will be with BASF or Glasurit.
