  • Crimping bands on rack boot?

Anyone have any tips/tricks for crimping these bands? The ones that hold the boot to the rack (#2). If you've ever seen the factory ones you'll know what I mean.

Looks like there's a special tool for it. I was thinking of using a pair if dull tile snips to pinch them closed.

I think I've seen this tool on the Lisle special tool rack at the parts store.

I don't have time to order one so I think I'll give it a try with a pair of tile nips.
I think it'll be fine if I dull the tool with a grinder first... we'll see.

        Don't pinch 'em too hard.
You want to be sure that the boot does not rotate with the rod when you adjust toe.
The boot fails quickly if it has to live with a twist,

You cant reuse the factory ones.
Large zip ties are also very effective.

Spray paint and tire shine doesn't equate to a "restoration!"

I bought new boots, clamps and lock plates when I got the tie rods... probably didn't need them, Otherwise I'd go with zipties.
