The "AK05" designation in your vin means its an catalyst equipped 195hp model.

        No problem.
You can verify the actual engine by looking for the engine number on the block right above the starter.
        234EA= 195hp 234S2= 215hp.

Although the 215hp model was not produced until 4/89.

          What is the difference between 23AE & 23S2 ?

Cylinder head ( larger intake ports ) , intake cam, throttle bodies ( 46mm Vs 48mm ), ECU.
Various cars sold in different markets also may or may not have had a cat fitted, some also used different sized exhaust manifolds.
This space is a sanctimonious shit free zone.

i think it goes more into a 10-15k way if you want real 300+hp
                  (without Turbo or a supercharger)

That would be 20k US! Second that. There aren't many M3 around with REAL 300+ Crank power.

300rwhp with some sort of reliability you may add another 10k US. And factor scheduled
                    semi rebuilds in as well.

                    Or swap the engine.

BUT, you seem to be new to the wonderful world of E30 M3 ownership and you may need a while to understand that you DON'T need 300bhp plus in an E30 M3 to have a lot of fun.
It's always the same pattern with new M3 owners, the first thing they complain is the lack of horsepower. You may need to change your driving habit a little bit. Revs. More Revs. And even more Revs and you are going to get the idea [peace]

So give it some time before you start spending big $$$.

                    just my 2p

Goodbye M3, you served me well.

or sell the S14 and put in an S50B32 plus six speed box for a cheaper route to a reliable 320bhp

Lets not make this a debate about engine swaps. That's for a different forum.

A true 300 whp S14 would be at the far end of the upper limit. You're talking about a 350 fwhp engine. You might be able to do it on the cheap for between 20 - 25k, but you could easily spend close to 30k. At that level you are also well into seasonal rebuilds.

Drop this about 20 - 30hp and you could have a reliable street engine with a reasonable life span. Still near the $20k mark though. Or for under $5k you could have a stock engine brought up to around 200whp.

yes I'm new in E30M3 world I need lots of information to learn from you guys ' it's not worth it to spend that much of money and it's will be very easy to swap as you said S50B32. I think its time to enjoy it with stock engine !
