  • John! Any media from Easter at the RING?

So how did it go? Is there any photos, vidoes, or stories? So I assume that Bijan met up? Do tell!

Disclaimer: Remember, I know absolutely nothing, but it doesn't prevent me from having an opinion or suggestion. :

Adwo posted this link to some media from the meet. http://www.xs4all.nl/~adwo/Easter%20Ring%202004/

    I like this one.

I had a wonderful time. Nurburg is a nice little town, it just has that feeling for me. I drove to nurburg thursday to find where the track was and get familiarized with everything. It was sleet/raining for the time I was there. Actually after I finished lunch in this nice restaurant it was actually snowing for a bit. The lower floor of the restaurant had its walls covered with motorsport memorabilia. Autographed pictures of formula 1 drivers, numerous M3 touring car pictures, etc. It was just great. I got a pretty picture of a house and a bit of the castle at the peak of nurburg while snowing.

John gave me a tour in his car on saturday, and let me follow him in a 320d hertz rental  sunday to get a better mental picture of the unknown parts of the track. My personal opinion of his car is that modifications were very carefully planned. The motor, oh the motor, bejesus. For such aggressive camshafts, the car felt to have had very good torque from 1k rpm up until things got crazy around 5ish k. This was a little surprising for an approximately stock weighted car.

I wasnt witness to how his motor compared to the numerous M3 CSLs or 911 GT3s that were there, but I wouldnt be surprised to see his car keep up just fine through the quicker sections. When in the meaty part of the powerband it was just this crazy.

I didnt get any pictures of track action, but did take some nice pictures of the town and the cars at the meet. There were some interesting enthusiast vehicles present :-) I will try and post some when I get home.

As usual I forgot all about doing pictures.
Adwo collected some that various enthusiasts
shot. Perhaps at the next trip end of may
      we can do some pics.

Bijan: after the lap together with your car I had planned
to take you out in my car. But I couldnt find you
in the car park. Adwo and I did quite a few laps
together (around 10 or so I also had to help
Espen for about 45 minutes with his haltech
and when got back werent in the car park to be found.
I also did a lap with Espen where we had lots of smoke
      in Adenauer Forst.

Glad you liked the engine (Bijan drive it himself).
Im still tinkering with some low end tuning to improve
it there, as usual nothing is ever perfect. But it is
true, most people cant tell by the way it idles or
drives in the low end that it has lumpy cams in it.
I think the engine drives very smoothly which is in
contrast to many peoples idea that big cams means
poor running engine. The meat of the power band
is though 5000-8500. I think I can safely raise the rev limit
      to 8800 now.

On the way back from the Ring (monday evening),
it still pulled an easy 260+ kmh with the carbon lip
raised up 10 cm and that wasnt yet flat out.
So my car doesnt really care which
position that flap is in. Meanwhile, I removed about
60 Kg from the car, but I cant say that the
car cared much about that either Im sure it picked
up a few tenths in places but I dont really notice a huge
      difference.

Glad you liked the Ring -- it is an awesome place.
I think we need to do an S14net meeting there next
year For those here in Europe, next "meeting"
is may 21-23 and then again end of June the s14motorsport.de
      meet.

      John

PS: I just noticed in the pic from above that my gastank filler
door is not always closed while cornering. Better fix that

I was also in the "green hell" at Saturday, 10.4.2004

        Here´s some ring action:

        http://nurburg.lir.dk/

it was nice to see MAXX, John & Adwo.
John gave me the opportunity to drive his car wich is a real beast.
I was surprised of his motor.
This thing runs smoother than my stock, and is so powerfull everywhere,
above 5k up to 8, his engine is really strong!
        Very sweet.

I had written a long email thanking you for the opportunity to feel as if I fit in a little better among all of the regulars of the Ring, and uh, non-americans. Also apologizing for not being able to find you before I had to leave Sunday.

After following you around I would have liked to talk a bit. As I said I was remembering most of the track remarkeably well, after a lap following you most of the iffy parts felt natural as well.

I have a few questions left about some of your setup, expect an email soon. I am trying to locate places where I can purchase K W's variant 2 system for the M3. Ive found a few, suspension.de, motorsport.co.uk, and a place in iceland, but need to make sure whats being sold is exactly what Im looking for. Ive heard some stuff about grey market K W.

I am definately looking forward to coming back. You cant experience something like that once and then just say, "wow, it was great, thats it." Or atleast I cant

End of June maybe. Next Easter weekend, most probably. Ill see If I cant find something a little more capable than a 4 door diesel. 10:30-11min isnt quite quick enough. Thanks again Hertz!! (and of course John, and the operators of the Ring that neglected to ask each person to show their valid drivers license)

so who is coming on the end June weekend? Im going to be in the motorsport hotel.
That is where Jake and his friends are hanging out to. word of caution though: when they
are partying next door in the old Fuchsroehere bar, you can hear that in the hotel and
when the crazy english guys get up at 7:30 in the morning to warm up their cars
for a before-breakfast-lap, you will be awake too hang over or not, they are all
out there revving up the engines with loud aftermarket exhaust systems...

Sounds like everyone had a great time!

Who was the guy who spun-out? Thank god nothing happened.

I'll be there , and about 5 others from the UK with M3's that I know of . I think Jake is going to load up his Touring with M3 parts as a kinda pilgrimage for his old car ... sorry Jake , couldn't resist
Which is the Motorsport Hotel ?

I still have some work to do on my car. I hope I`ve got it done by then. If not. Maybe I`ll put it on a trailer. It`s a must to be there in June.

How many car are comming ?
And is there a special parking place for all our cars ?

                          Hmm.... good idea!

                          :rolling:

I've got a better plan! I'll be traveling with a twin! A buddy of mine from Scottland is coming down with his Lachs silver M3 (in spirit of my own Lachs M3). We're meeting up at the hacienda and making the run down to the Ring Friday morning.

We should charter a ferry for all us E30 M3 and occasional Touring owners headed to the Ring! Now that would be one party cruise!

Geez John! Don't set that kind of precedence for me! I've never even been on a track before!

And a boat is a boat is a boat. Can't change that. The Touring will be ready for some track time but she's certainly no superstar.

BTW, I tried to make my reservations yesterday and the girl I was talking to couldn't really understand me and told me to just fax her my info. Problem is, I don't have a fax! I'm going to try to work it out tomorrow though. No matter what I'm going!!

                          Cheers,
                          Jake Larsen

I was planning on arriving Friday afternoon (25th) and leaving Monday morning.

The confusion with the reservations was when I tried to explain I needed one room with 2 beds. She kept saying "Yes, 2 rooms with four beds." I was like huh?

I'm going to do some running around this morning and try to get a fax out to them. Hopefully it will all be set up by this afternoon.

If there's anybody with plans to cross the channel on Friday, please post here. It would be a good time if we could all get on the same ferry.

                              Take care,
