  • Interesting front suspension noise.. any ideas?

Ok, it really only does it at low speed, like when i pull out of a drive or over a speed bump. It's definately a metallic sound, kinda like a pop/clunk, but it doesn't happen at all under higher speed loads.

Now, sway bar mounts/links is the obvious answer, but i just checked ALL of the sway bolts/nuts and they're tight. Could it be a sway bar link that's giving out?? I also check control arm mounts, tie rod ends, strut housing nuts, etc and EVERYTHING is tight, as are the motor mounts.

So my guess is worn out sway link? anyone confirm or have any input?

    thanks

    Alex,

I have this exact same sound. Stu heard it as well. Billy is giong to tear the front suspension apart and see what the deal is tomorrow as well as a valve adjustment. It is VERY annoying, and its no constant, only on occasions?????

Actually i think Stuart and I pinpointed it as a worn-out sway bar link. The sound is coming from the passenger side of the car and on the driver's side i've got a TMS adjustable link, thus the passenger side is still a factory unit, which has more than likely failed. However, i'm not familiar with what a busted ball-joint on a sway bar link sounds like so i was unsure as to the exact problem, luckily i've got the link in stock and will be replacing it tomorrow.

            funny.
Im riding with this cracking moise now for ~5 years.
I didnt find anything that was worn out or broken.
In my case I can repeat this cracking noise when I do a load change to the other side, and it appears in higher speeds also.
Noise comes from the passenger side.

I have similar problems ever since i have installed my full H&R coilovers. When im going really slow(pulling out of a paring stall) i get a "POP" when I start to turn the wheels. This doesn't happen all the time but it is still annoying. Ive had mine checked out and all they could come up with would be that me spring is poping when i turn.

I'M GLAD TO HEAR THE SAME PROBLEM FROM A LOT OF YOU GUYS. I 'VE HAD MY CAR FOR 8 YRS AND I STARTED HEARING THAT NOISE AFTER CHANGING MY SPRINGS. I HAVE ALWAYS ASSUME IT WAS MY SPRINGS NOT SEATING PROPERLY.
I PLANNING ON CHANGING MY SPRINGS SOON JUST WAITING FOR THE SHOCKS TO GET MORE MILEAGE.AFTER HEARING YOU GUYS, I DON'T THINK IT GOT ANYTHING TO DO WITH THE SPRINGS. ANY UPDATE WOULD BE AWESOME!!!

Go low tech. Have someone walk next to the car while slowly going over bumps to see exactly where the sound is emitting from?

today I found out that my thermostat housing crashes with the left chassis frame !!
In static situations there is 2cm space but driving a lefthander this housing will sratch on the frame. Color is off there.
Now I placed a piece of teflon there, hoping it was the solution, I couldnt test right now.

Btw: How much space is between the exhaust header and the frame @ your cars ???
I have there 3cm and the color is burnt.?! ;-/

I get a ticking noise whenever I go over any type of sharp bump. I get it in the front and the back at anyspeed. It's probably the same problem right?

'Sway bar link' is this the same as an 'anti-roll bar link' ? Maybe it's a US/UK thing as I've not heard that term before or I might just be a bit thick.
