  • one dissapointed supercharged S2000..

I posted this on DTM, but thought you fellas might wanna hear..

Well i was leaving my friend's neighborhood, following this friend of his driving his newly supercharged by Vortech S2000. The car's all kitted out with the Veilside package, including the 18" rims (which aren't helping that 4 cylinder at all but look great).

Anyway, we turn onto a main road that's unfortunately only 1 lane each way.. 1st gear was just cruising, then he hit 2nd and i heard him stick it- so i (a tick later) stomped on it in 2nd and immediately caught up with him, short-shifting to 3rd at 5500 so as to avoid getting to close to his bumper. We then shut down for a car turning right in front of him. After the van pulled onto a side-street we both stuck it in 2nd, this time him into VTEC, me only at 3000 or so.. anyway, as soon as i hit 4000 i blew straight back onto his bumper, shifted at about 6500 then let off to again, avoid running into him.

So, we only got up into 3rd, but i had no problem staying with him and could have passed him provided there were two lanes. Either way, his S2000 is super sweet, and i give him props all the way- quick car, but still not match for the dirty thirty. If he threw some lighter wheels on i'm sure he'd gain a little back.

That is a wicked car... He has been saying he was getting that Vortech blower for quite a while. Guess the time has come. Good to see that the ol' S50 can hang.

I know I know.... .5 seconds is a big difference....just makes you wonder what spending all this money on performance mods really does???

Adam, those are probably all bolt-ons though.. so clearly a 13.7 1/4 is quicker for bolt-ons!

Stan, i know i know- i'll do a 1/4 one of these days.

              Yeah its quicker...

But i was just saying...its not that much quicker....

              Just an observation...

I've seen stock 3.2's run 13.9's .... so a better mod would be driver improvement

The numbers are the numbers..in the article I pulled the numbers from they mentioned that they had traction trouble and thought that 13.6 or so should be doable. On the street the modded car would easily put car lengths on the other vehicle in a short time.

400 at the wheels? the Vortech unit puts out 300whp..

Anyway, STAN- i ran 50-80 3 times tonight using a digital watch. Now that i've got the smaller lighter wheel/tires i saw 3.6, 3.6, and 3.7 seconds.

Alex, thats nothing, measures with a digital watch and your tacho (wich isnt accurate) to read out times...

Try with equipment, and you will be astonished

yea at 6.5 psi i believe, he was making 293 with just the stock vortech setup. cia, exhuast, tunning and vafc gave him close to 400 whp. he was boosting close to 9 psi i believe, this is why the block is no more... dont try this on pump gas plus booster

Alex, 50-80 MPH in 3.6/3.7 is hauling! Much faster than an M5 or new M3... Mid to high 12's in the 1/4 mile is what the comparable cars below can do. Another tweak or two and you can own ZO6s. In third gear you are accelerating almost as hard as a stock E36 M3 does in 2nd gear.
