It is not welded in. The guy welded extra hangers to the exhaust but it is not welded to the body. It is hanged on rubber rings. It is just hard to see.
.
Probably saw the unused 325i mounts and decided put them to use as well for extra support. It's unnecessary though, especially with that lightweight rear muffler.
Well, the exhaust guy thought the extra support was needed. The exhaust has pretty wide tips so extra support brackets was needed to keep the exhaust centered so the tips wouldn't touch the bumper. As you can see in the pictures, there is little clearance around the exhaust tips.
just think it's a real shame that a guy welds some 5-6mm think mild steel plates on such a well made stainless exhaust. If that would be my car (driven hard with sticky tyres) I would almost garantee that they will just rip the sheet metal together with the weld out of the exhaust body.
That's just not the way to make some exhaust brackets.

Since the donor was a non-M, I would wager there was never a mount added for the rear of the "M3" muffler.
Thusly, you'd need to find a way to mount an M3 muffler to a 325i hanger setup, and the 325i clamps wont fit around an M3 muffler.
I just went through this on another car...

Spray paint and tire shine doesn't equate to a "restoration!"
