  • s50 swap into e30 m3 - electric windows now not working

I have been told that I need to earth the windows
can anyone tell me which wire to earth?

Not quite sure how the engine swap would effect things, but, it's usually quicker to start from
the basics. Each window switch has 5 wires going to it, of these 5 wires at each switch 1 will be
green/grey and 2 will be brown. The green/grey should be carrying 12volts to the switch and each
of the browns should be earths.

i remember a wire in the engine bay next to the master cylinder which needed to be earthed to get the windows working.

u need to ground the uploader relay , if memory is correct it's the black/green wire in the plug from the engine harness

Pin 15 from the C101 connector (the round one next to the fuse box) should be put to ground.

not so fast there. it depends on the build date.

early 87 models had different k7/k5 unloader wiring. p15/c101 (blk/yel) is the START signal...... NOT the ground leg on the unloaders. grounding this is BAD.
there is no wire from the starter to the unloader relays. (hence a 2 wire starter.)

later (~6/87) had the typical 3 wire starter. i would assume this to be the case here..... but check your build date.
p15/c101 (blk/grn) is the GROUND leg from the starter pull.

                cheers, jason
