Sorry if this has already been discussed, but how well does your car run with the MAP sensor? I've seen a few posts from people on this board that say their cars ran fine with a MAP sensor, but many recommend against it. Some say that MAP is not a good solution for our cars because of the individual throttle bodies. As I understand it, the ITB can lead to a choppy MAP signal. Furthermore, aggressive cams are said to exacerbate this problem. It should be mentioned that there are ways to "condition" the air feeding the MAP sensor to smooth out pressure fluctuations: in line air filters, small in line nozzles, etc.

Since so many people here run Alpha-N, there doesn't seem to be a lot of empirical evidence to back up these claims against MAP. What's your experience? Do you use MAP for engine load in all circumstances - idle to WOT? For example one can set some ECUs to use MAP in one portion of the fuel/ignition map and Alpha-N in another.

      Brad,

Yes, you are right. usually the MAP sensor will give erratic reading with bigger cams. i have found that running all the lines into a common vacuum camber will help with the readings. With the Vipec ECU i have the ability to use either the TPS, MAP sensor or both together.

      • Joe,

How do you like the paint work on your car? Would you recommend the shop which did your work? I am looking for a competent and trust worthy shop around NY.

        Thanks,

        David

I may or may not have 1,000 pictures to corroborate such rumors
